A goldendoodle abandoned at Harry Reid International Airport earlier this month has found a permanent home with one of the police officers who helped rescue him, authorities confirmed.
The dog, affectionately nicknamed “Jet Blue,” was left tied to a metal baggage sizer at a JetBlue ticket counter on February 2. Officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of the abandoned animal.
Rescue and arrest
According to police, airline staff had informed the dog’s owner that she had not completed the required documentation to travel with the animal as a service dog. She was denied boarding and allegedly left the dog behind before proceeding through security.
Authorities said the woman was later arrested on charges of animal abandonment and resisting arrest. Police body-camera footage showed officers escorting her back through the checkpoint.
LVMPD later issued a public appeal urging travellers not to abandon pets under any circumstances.
A new beginning
After a mandatory 10-day hold period passed without the owner returning, Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas took custody of the approximately two-year-old goldendoodle–mini poodle mix.
The rescue organisation reported receiving numerous adoption applications. Ultimately, Jet Blue was placed with Officer Skeeter Black and his family — one of the officers involved in the initial rescue.
Police said Officer Black had already been approved for adoption months earlier and had been working with the rescue group since September 2025.
In a social media post, LVMPD expressed gratitude for the community’s support and confirmed that Jet Blue has now “officially landed in his new, loving home.”
After a traumatic beginning, the once-abandoned pup now starts a new chapter — one filled with care, stability and affection.
