Afghanistan: Afghanistan’s leading business organisation has called for expanding trade and investment relations with India, urging both countries to simplify business procedures, remove administrative hurdles and facilitate the issuance of business visas.
The proposals were discussed during a meeting in Kabul between Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) Chairman Sayed Karim Hashemi and Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Yatin Patel.
Focus on boosting bilateral trade
During the meeting, the ACCI highlighted the importance of strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries by creating a more business-friendly environment.
The chamber stressed the need to ease administrative procedures that affect trade and investment while encouraging measures to facilitate smoother commercial exchanges between Afghan and Indian businesses.
It also emphasised the importance of issuing business visas more efficiently to help entrepreneurs and investors travel between the two countries.
India remains an important trade partner
India has traditionally been one of Afghanistan’s key regional trading partners, with bilateral trade covering products such as dry fruits, fresh fruits, medicinal herbs, spices and other agricultural commodities.
Despite political and logistical challenges in recent years, both sides have continued to explore opportunities to strengthen commercial engagement and improve economic cooperation.
The meeting reflects ongoing efforts to maintain business relations and identify practical measures to enhance trade connectivity between Afghanistan and India.
Business community seeks closer cooperation
The ACCI expressed optimism that reducing bureaucratic barriers and improving investment conditions would encourage greater participation from businesses in both countries.
Observers believe improved trade facilitation and easier travel for business representatives could help revive commercial activity and create new opportunities for exporters and investors.
The discussions are expected to contribute to strengthening economic ties as both sides continue to engage on issues of mutual commercial interest.
