Johannesburg: As many as fourteen people died in a pub shootout in the Soweto township, close to Johannesburg, South Africa.
“We were called in the early hours of the morning, about 12:30 am (2230 GMT). Twelve people were already dead when we got there,” said police lieutenant Elias Mawela after the shooting overnight Saturday July 9 and Sunday.
Twelve people had already been declared dead when his team arrived on the scene, he said.
He also said 11 others were rushed to hospital with wounds but two later died, raising the toll to 14.
