An anti-tank missile fired from Lebanon on Monday struck an orchard close to the Israeli settlement of Margaliot, near the country’s northern border, killing one Indian person, a Kerala native, and injuring two more. Kerala is home to all three of the victims.
Speaking to PTI, Zaki Heller, a spokesman for rescue services Magen David Adom (MDA), said that on Monday at around 11:00 a.m., a missile struck a plantation in Margaliot, a moshav (communal agricultural community) in the northern Israeli region of the Galilee.

According to official authorities, the deceased has been identified as Patnibin Maxwell from Kollam, Kerala, and his fatal remains were identified at Ziv hospital. Paul Melvin and Bush Joseph George were the two injured people who were brought to hospitals for medical attention.

“George was taken to the Beilinson hospital in Petah Tikva after suffering injuries on face and body. He underwent an operation, is recovering well, and has been kept under observation. He could speak with his family in India,” the source told PTI.

Melvin was slightly injured and is hospitalized at Ziv Hospital in the northern Israeli city of Safed. He is from the Idukki district of Kerala.

The attack is believed to have been carried out by the Shi’ite Hezbollah faction in Lebanon, which has been launching rockets, missiles, and drones at northern Israel daily since October 8 in support of Hamas amid the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.

The Israel Defense Forces stated on Monday that they had retaliated by using artillery to bombard the launch site. According to the Israeli military, it also hit a Hezbollah property in the southern Lebanon town of Chihine, where members of the group were assembled, as well as another Hezbollah location near Ayta ash-Shab.

Since October 8, Hezbollah has been attacking Israeli villages and military installations in the north, claiming the operations are in support of Gaza. Ten IDF troops and seven civilians have died as a result of the battles between Israel and Hezbollah.
