A tragic incident has been reported from Sharjah, where a child lost his life after drowning in a pool of accumulated rainwater on April 1.
According to a statement issued by Sharjah Police, authorities received a report of the incident at around 7.05 pm. Emergency response teams, including rescue personnel and ambulances, were immediately dispatched to the location.
Rescue efforts fail to save child
The child was rushed to a nearby hospital following the incident. Despite prompt medical attention, he could not be revived and was declared dead.
The incident has left the community in shock, with authorities expressing condolences to the grieving family.
Hidden dangers of rainwater pools
Sharjah Police have cautioned the public about the risks associated with rainwater accumulation, especially in open or uneven areas. Such water bodies often have unpredictable depths, unstable surfaces, and slippery mud, making them highly dangerous.
Officials emphasised that these hidden hazards significantly increase the risk of drowning and serious injuries, particularly among children.
Advisory to parents and community
Authorities have urged parents to closely monitor their children and prevent them from approaching or playing near waterlogged areas. They also stressed the importance of educating children about the dangers of swimming in undesignated locations.
Community members have been encouraged to report unsafe situations or risky behaviour through official helplines to prevent similar incidents.
Call for preventive awareness
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and awareness, particularly during periods of rainfall when temporary water bodies form.
Officials reiterated that adherence to safety guidelines and active supervision can play a crucial role in preventing such avoidable tragedies.
