A viral Instagram video featuring an Indian migrant working as a sanitation worker in Dubai has sparked widespread discussion online, drawing both admiration for his dedication and concern over the realities of migrant labour.

The video, shared by content creator Jagdish Chawla, features Abhishek Singh, a young man from Punjab who moved to Dubai less than a year ago through a family connection and now works in garbage collection.

Long hours and modest earnings

In the video, Abhishek explains that he works approximately 11 to 12 hours a day and earns between 1,800 and 1,900 AED per month, equivalent to around ₹49,000. While his employer provides accommodation, he is responsible for his own food expenses.

According to Abhishek, he came to Dubai after completing his studies in India and secured the opportunity through his brother, who was already employed with the same company.

Despite the demanding nature of the job, he spoke positively about his experience and encouraged young people to remain focused and hardworking regardless of challenges.

Social media reacts

The video quickly gained traction on social media, generating a mix of reactions from viewers.

Many praised Abhishek’s determination and willingness to take up difficult work to support his future. Several users highlighted the importance of sanitation workers, whose efforts help keep cities clean and functioning.

Others, however, questioned whether the salary adequately reflected the physically demanding nature of the work, particularly in Dubai’s extreme summer temperatures.

Some users described the earnings as modest considering the long working hours, while others raised concerns about the long-term sustainability of such jobs for migrant workers.

Wider conversation on migrant workers

The viral post has reignited discussions about overseas employment, migrant labour conditions and the sacrifices many workers make in pursuit of better opportunities.

While opinions remain divided, many viewers agreed that the story highlights the resilience of thousands of workers who leave their homes to build livelihoods abroad and support their families.
