An e-bike battery fire has ravaged the home of a family of seven, reducing everything they owned to ashes and leaving them homeless, reports The Metro.
Simon Blanshard, 40, and Laura Natale, 25, along with their five children, lost their three-bedroom house to a fire on July 9. They suspect the fire was caused by an e-bike battery that was charging at the time.
The blaze inflicted severe damage, rendering their residence uninhabitable. Currently, they are relying on the kindness of friends and family for shelter.
Mr. Blanshard expressed profound shock and devastation over the loss: “We’ve lost absolutely everything. We’re starting from scratch.” Currently unemployed and hailing from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, Simon shared with The Metro, “Pretty much everything has been destroyed. Whatever hasn’t been burned has been damaged by smoke, so there’s nothing in the house we can salvage. We are sofa-surfing at my partner’s mom’s at the moment; we are basically homeless. It’s devastating; it’s hard to get through a day without crying.”
The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of e-bike batteries, prompting calls for stricter safety regulations and environmental controls related to electric vehicles.
This unfortunate event underscores the potential hazards associated with e-bike batteries, underscoring the need for enhanced safety measures in their use and charging.
