Emirates Bans Pagers and Walkie-Talkies Amid Regional Tensions

Emirates Airlines

Emirates Airlines has announced a prohibition on passengers carrying pagers and walkie-talkies on flights to and from Dubai, as reported by Gulf News. The airline has emphasised that any such items found in hand luggage or checked baggage will be confiscated by Dubai Police.

This announcement follows a tragic incident in Lebanon where thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies, reportedly used by Hezbollah militants, exploded, resulting in the deaths of at least 39 individuals and injuring thousands more. The attacks are widely believed to have been conducted by Israel, although the country has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement.

In addition to the ban, Emirates has updated its flight operations for several destinations in the Middle East in light of the current situation. Notably, flights to and from Beirut have been cancelled until October 15. Passengers whose final destination is Beirut, including those transiting through Dubai, will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin until further notice.

Emirates is urging all customers to ensure that their contact details are current by visiting the ‘Manage Your Booking’ section on the airline’s website to receive timely updates about their travel plans.

In related news from the ongoing West Asia crisis, the Israeli military has reported striking Hezbollah militants within a mosque in southern Lebanon. This military action occurred overnight and was coordinated under the direction of IDF (Israel Defense Forces) intelligence. The Israeli Air Force targeted a command centre located adjacent to Salah Ghandour Hospital.

Furthermore, this military operation marks a significant escalation, as it included an attack on Lebanon’s northern city of Tripoli for the first time, indicating the intensifying conflict in the region.
