At least 11 Palestinians, including two 13-year-old boys and three journalists, were killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza on Wednesday, according to hospital officials, in incidents that have further strained a fragile three-month-old ceasefire.
Journalists killed while documenting displacement
Palestinian health authorities said an Israeli airstrike killed three journalists who were travelling in a car to document a newly established displacement camp in the Netzarim area of central Gaza. The deceased were identified as Mohammed Salah Qashta, Abdul Raouf Shaat, and Anas Ghneim.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said the reporters were carrying out a humanitarian and journalistic mission to record civilian suffering. Local journalists said their work was supported by the Egyptian Relief Committee, whose vehicle was hit in the strike.
Shaat was a regular contributor to Agence France-Presse, though the agency said he was not on assignment at the time.
Children among the dead
In a separate incident, a 13-year-old boy, his father, and a 22-year-old man were killed in a drone strike on the eastern edge of the Bureij refugee camp, according to al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
In another case, Moatsem al-Sharafy, also 13, was shot dead by Israeli troops while collecting firewood in Bani Suheila, eastern Gaza, officials at Nasser Hospital said. Footage circulating online showed his father grieving beside the boy’s body.
Israeli military response
The Israeli military said the strike on the journalists’ vehicle followed the identification of individuals operating a drone allegedly linked to Hamas, describing the attack as a precise strike to neutralise a perceived threat. It added that the incident was under review.
Mounting toll
The media watchdog Reporters Without Borders said at least 29 Palestinian journalists were killed in Gaza between December 2024 and December 2025, with nearly 220 journalists killed since the war began in October 2023.
Health authorities said at least 466 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire took effect in October.
