Google launches Squid Game-inspired Easter egg with “Red Light, Green Light” game

Google has introduced a fun new Easter egg inspired by Netflix’s hit series Squid Game, allowing users to play the infamous “Red Light, Green Light” game directly from Google Search. The interactive surprise adds a playful twist for fans of the show.

To unlock the game, simply search for “Squid Game” on Google, either on mobile or desktop. You’ll find an animated invitation featuring the show’s signature shapes—circle, triangle, and square—at the bottom of the search results. Clicking on this reveals the mini-game, which closely mirrors the high-stakes tension of the series.

In this digital version of Red Light, Green Light, players control six figures attempting to cross the finish line. The rules are simple but challenging:

  • Press the blue circle button to move the players.
  • Press the red cross button to stop moving.

The key is to stop before the doll turns around—otherwise, your player is eliminated. The goal is to get all six figures across the finish line safely.

This Easter egg doesn’t just replicate the basic concept of the game; the two-button mechanic adds a layer of tension, mirroring the intensity of the iconic scene from Squid Game. Additionally, the game includes a nod to the series’ cultural elements, with the menacing doll, Young-hee, reciting the famous phrase “무궁화꽃이 피었습니다” (Mugunghwa-kkochi pieot-seumnida), meaning “The Mugungha Flower has bloomed.”

The timing of the Easter egg coincides with the release of Squid Game season 2 on Netflix, which premiered on December 26, 2024. This Easter egg is a fun and timely treat for fans eager to dive back into the Squid Game world.

Try the game out now and see how quickly you can get all six players across the finish line!
