An Indian national was among those killed after a reported drone and missile strike targeted facilities at Kuwait International Airport, according to Kuwaiti authorities and the Indian Embassy in Kuwait.
The attack, which allegedly struck Terminal 1 of the airport, also left dozens injured and caused significant damage to airport infrastructure, raising fresh concerns over escalating tensions in the Gulf region.
Airport attack causes casualties
Authorities said thick black smoke engulfed parts of the airport following the strike. Videos released by Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) showed people running for safety as smoke billowed from damaged structures.
Kuwaiti officials claimed the attack resulted in one death and injuries to 63 people.
The Indian Embassy in Kuwait confirmed that the deceased was an Indian citizen. The mission expressed condolences to the family and said it was coordinating with local authorities to provide assistance. The identity of the victim has not yet been made public.
Iran denies involvement
Kuwait alleged that the strike was carried out by Iran. However, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) denied responsibility for the attack on Kuwait International Airport.
According to statements carried by Iranian state-linked channels, the IRGC said its investigation found that no attacks had been directed at the airport.
The conflicting claims have added uncertainty to the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Rising regional tensions
The reported strike comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf following recent military exchanges involving Iran and its regional adversaries.
Iranian officials stated that recent military actions were in response to attacks on Iranian assets, while reiterating that the country does not seek a wider conflict.
Meanwhile, international observers are closely monitoring developments amid concerns that further escalation could affect regional stability, aviation operations and global energy markets.
Investigation underway
Authorities in Kuwait have launched investigations into the incident and the extent of the damage caused. Security agencies are also assessing the attack and its implications for critical infrastructure.
As the situation develops, diplomatic and security agencies across the region continue to monitor events closely.
