London, August 16, 2024 : In a heartfelt tribute to his late father, Indian entrepreneur Aman Dhall has launched a new scholarship at Loughborough University in the UK. The initiative, named the Virendra Kumar Dhall Scholarship for Sporting Excellence, aims to support Indian students who are pursuing excellence in sports at an international level.

The Virendra Kumar Dhall Scholarship is a five-year programmer valued at GBP 12,500 (approximately Rs 13.55 lakh). Each year, the scholarship will award up to GBP 2,500 (approximately Rs 2.71 lakh) to assist students with essential costs related to their sporting pursuits. This includes travel for trials, equipment, coaching, nutritional advice, and gym memberships. The goal is to alleviate financial barriers and provide critical support to athletes striving for excellence.

The scholarship is available to undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students at Loughborough University, regardless of whether they are enrolled full-time or part-time. This broad eligibility underscores Loughborough’s commitment to supporting a wide range of athletes, from emerging talent to seasoned competitors.

Loughborough University is renowned for its strong sports programmers and has been a training ground for several top athletes, including India’s javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, and international figures such as Lord Sebastian Coe, Adam Peaty OBE, and Paula Radcliffe MBE. The university’s emphasis on sporting excellence makes it an ideal venue for this scholarship.

Aman Dhall, who completed his MSc in Sport Management at Loughborough University in 2011, was inspired to establish the scholarship based on his own experiences. Having faced financial constraints during his early sports career, Dhall is dedicated to supporting future generations of athletes who encounter similar challenges. This scholarship is a manifestation of his father’s dream and his own commitment to nurturing young talent.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Jennings CB FREng FRS expressed his enthusiasm for the new scholarship, stating, “We seek to welcome exciting talent from across the world to benefit from the outstanding performance sport programmers we have here at Loughborough University. This new scholarship for sporting excellence will ensure that young Indian athletes are empowered to do so.”

Applications for the Virendra Kumar Dhall Scholarship for Sporting Excellence are now open. This initiative reflects a significant step towards supporting talented athletes and enhancing their opportunities for success on the global stage.
