Toronto: Canadian police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of 30-year-old Indian-origin woman Himanshi Khurana, nearly eight months after she was found dead at a residence in Toronto.

Partner arrested at Toronto airport

According to Toronto Police, Abdul Ghafoori was taken into custody at Toronto airport on Friday. He had been wanted on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with Khurana’s death.

Toronto Police’s fugitive squad and homicide unit worked with national and international law enforcement agencies to secure Ghafoori’s return to Canada. Police have not disclosed the country where he was staying before his arrest.

Khurana found dead after missing report

Khurana was reported missing on the night of December 19, 2025, after police received information at around 10.41 pm regarding her disappearance from the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area.

A search operation was launched, and her body was discovered inside a residence in the same neighbourhood at around 6.30 am on December 20.

Investigators subsequently classified her death as a homicide. The case was recorded as Toronto’s 40th homicide of 2025.

Police call it intimate partner violence

During the investigation, police determined that Khurana and Ghafoori were in an “intimate partner relationship”.

Investigators described the killing as an alleged act of intimate partner violence and subsequently obtained a Canada-wide warrant for Ghafoori’s arrest on a first-degree murder charge.

Police had earlier released his photograph and appealed to the public for information about his whereabouts.

Indian Consulate had offered assistance

Following Khurana’s death, the Consulate General of India in Toronto expressed condolences to her family and said it was providing assistance in coordination with Canadian authorities.

The Consulate had described the death as deeply saddening and said it had remained in contact with the matter while extending possible assistance to the bereaved family.

The murder investigation is continuing, with Ghafoori now facing the first-degree murder charge in Canada.
