Indian Student from Hyderabad Missing in Chicago

Chicago: An Indian student, Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi, has been reported missing in Chicago since May 2nd. The Consulate General of India in Chicago has confirmed its engagement with local authorities and the Indian community in efforts to locate or establish contact with him.

In an official statement on X, the Consulate expressed deep concern over Rupesh Chintakindi’s unavailability and reiterated its coordination with both law enforcement and the Indian diaspora to ensure his safety.

The Chicago Police Department has issued a plea for information from the public to aid in locating Rupesh Chintakindi, who was last seen in the vicinity of the 4300 block of N Sheridan Road.

Tragically, this incident follows a similar occurrence in April, when Mohammed Abdul Arfath, another Indian student, was discovered deceased in Ohio after being reported missing since March. The Consulate General of India in New York expressed sorrow over Arfath’s passing and pledged collaboration with local authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.

Arfath, hailing from Hyderabad, had embarked on a master’s program in IT at Cleveland University in May 2023. His disappearance was marked by a distressing ransom demand, indicating the severity of the situation.

These recent events underscore a concerning trend within the Indian community abroad. Earlier in February, an Indian student, Syed Mazahir Ali, faced a violent assault in Chicago, prompting immediate action from the Indian Consulate to ensure his welfare and support for his family back in India.
