Seoul: South Korean authorities have summoned a Japanese woman for questioning over allegations that she kissed BTS member Jin without consent at a public event last year. An official from Seoul’s Songpa Police Station confirmed that the woman is being investigated for sexual harassment, as reported by the Associated Press. However, her identity remains undisclosed due to privacy concerns.

The probe began after police received an online complaint. Reports indicate that South Korean authorities, with assistance from Japanese police, identified the suspect, a woman in her 50s. However, she has refused to cooperate and declined to appear for questioning.

Jin, full name Kim Seok-jin, finished his 18-month military service in June 2024. To celebrate his discharge and BTS’s 11-year anniversary, he organized a free hug event in Seoul, which saw 1,000 fans in attendance. During the event, an unidentified woman suddenly kissed Jin’s cheek, a moment captured on video. Jin appeared visibly uncomfortable in the footage, which quickly went viral.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the woman later detailed the incident in a blog post, writing, “My lips touched his neck. His skin was so soft.” Authorities, acting on a netizen’s complaint, booked her last month.

BTS, formed in 2013, boasts a global fanbase known as the ARMY. At 32 years old, Jin is the eldest member of the group.
