The upcoming KBS drama The First Night With The Duke, starring Seohyun from Girls’ Generation and Taecyeon from 2 PM, has sparked controversy after the production team reportedly caused damage to a UNESCO World Heritage site. The incident occurred at the Byeongsanseowon Confucian Academy, where it was alleged that a nail was drilled into the walls during filming to hang props. This led to public outcry, prompting KBS to issue a formal apology.
Following the news of the damage, Seohyun and Taecyeon faced heavy criticism, with many expressing concern about the preservation of such an important historical site. On January 2, 2024, KBS responded by acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. In their statement, they explained that the production team had obtained permission to film at Andong Byeongsanseowon last year. However, the incident occurred when a passerby witnessed the team installing props and drilling into the protected structure, leading to a protest about the inappropriateness of such actions at a heritage site.
KBS expressed regret for the incident and reaffirmed their commitment to respecting heritage sites in the future.
