A tragic fire in Kuwait City claimed the lives of a Reuters employee, his wife, and their two children, who had recently returned from vacation in Kerala. The incident occurred late on July 19 in their second-floor apartment in the Abbasiya area, due to a short circuit in the air conditioner.

According to a report from The Arab Times, the victims were identified as Mathews Mulackal and his wife Lini Abraham, both from Alappuzha district’s Neerattupuram. Mathews worked at Reuters, while Lini was a nurse at Adan Hospital in Al Ahmadi Governorate. Their children attended Bhavans School in Kuwait.

The family had just returned from Kerala at 4 pm local time the same day the tragedy struck. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait is coordinating with their relatives in Kerala to facilitate the repatriation of their remains.

This incident follows closely after another tragic fire last month that claimed the lives of 45 Indians in a labor accommodation. Major General Khaled Fahd, from the General Fire Force, was on-site and confirmed that the blaze was successfully contained by emergency teams.

Expressing their condolences, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait assured they are in contact with the family and overseeing the repatriation process.
