Tokyo: Early Wednesday morning, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake jolted the Tokyo metropolitan area, according to Japan’s weather agency. The quake struck at 1:47 a.m. local time and registered a seismic intensity of 3 on Japan’s scale of 7 in Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Chiba Prefectures, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported.
The earthquake’s epicenter, located 120 km deep, was situated in Tokyo’s 23 wards at a latitude of 35.7°N and a longitude of 139.6°E, as noted by Xinhua news agency. Central Tokyo felt the tremors strongly, but no tsunami warnings were issued. Fortunately, there have been no reports of damage or injuries resulting from the quake.
