A heartwarming act of generosity by a man with autism has captured attention after years of quietly saving small amounts of money to help schoolchildren in his community.
Christopher “Chris” Francisco, 32, from Balete in Aklan, spent more than two years collecting ₱5 coins from neighbours and acquaintances. While many people saw it as an unusual habit, few knew that Chris had a clear purpose behind every coin he saved.
His dedication eventually allowed him to purchase boxes of crayons and educational materials for students at Calizo Elementary School and Calizo National High School, benefiting hundreds of young learners.
Years of patience behind a simple gift
Residents had become familiar with Chris’s routine of asking for small contributions. He rarely accepted larger amounts, choosing instead to save modest donations over time.
When he finally arrived at local schools carrying sacks filled with crayons, teachers and community members were surprised to learn what he had been working towards. His donation provided students with essential classroom supplies that many families struggle to afford.
The gift served as a reminder that even the smallest contributions can create a meaningful impact when supported by determination and purpose.
A lifelong love for education
Despite completing only the first grade, Chris has always shown a strong interest in learning. Teachers said he regularly visited libraries, spending time reading books, encyclopaedias and educational materials.
His appreciation for education inspired him to support children in their studies. Along with crayons, he also donated periodic tables to help secondary school students with their learning.
Educators noted that access to basic learning tools can play an important role in encouraging creativity, confidence and classroom participation among children.
A gesture that touched hearts
Teachers and school administrators described the donation as both unexpected and emotional. They praised Chris for thinking about children who may not have the means to purchase everyday school supplies.
The schools later honoured him with certificates of appreciation in recognition of his contribution to education and community welfare.
Chris’s story stands as a powerful example of how perseverance, kindness and a belief in learning can transform small acts into something truly meaningful for others
