In a remarkable act of courage and presence of mind, a 26-year-old mother rescued her two-year-old son after their car plunged into the Ottauquechee River in Vermont, United States.
The incident occurred on April 6 near Quechee Main Street, prompting a swift response from the Hartford Fire Department.
Split-second decision saves lives
According to officials, the vehicle became submerged with the child strapped into a car seat in the back. Acting quickly, the mother managed to unbuckle her son despite the chaotic situation.
She then cut through the deployed driver-side airbag and escaped through a window, bringing her child along before both swam to safety.
