A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in the US state of Missouri took an unusual turn after authorities discovered nearly 500 pounds (about 227 kilograms) of marijuana scattered across the highway.
The incident occurred on April 20, a date popularly known as “4/20”, which is widely associated with cannabis culture, adding an ironic twist to the case.
According to law enforcement officials, the crash involved multiple vehicles and prompted emergency responders to close parts of the highway while clearing the wreckage. During the operation, officers found hundreds of pounds of marijuana strewn across the roadway.
Two men arrested on drug trafficking charges
Following the discovery, authorities arrested two men in connection with the incident. They have been charged with first-degree drug trafficking, one of the most serious drug-related offences under Missouri law.
If convicted, the accused could face prison sentences of up to 30 years.
Investigators believe the marijuana was being transported in one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Officials have not released the identities of the suspects or disclosed additional details about the ongoing investigation.
