A software engineer in New York City has transformed his passion for pets into a thriving luxury side business that now earns him more than Rs 5.7 lakh every month.

Twenty-eight-year-old Coby Goodhart launched Goodhart Dog Co. in 2025 while continuing his full-time engineering career. The premium dog-walking and pet-care business now reportedly generates annual revenue running into six figures.

Luxury dog care built around office schedule

Speaking to People magazine, Goodhart said he carefully structured the business around his engineering job.

He reportedly handles dog walks during mornings, lunch breaks, evenings and weekends, while also employing and training an additional dog walker to manage midday schedules.

Together, the team walks between 10 and 20 dogs daily across Lower Manhattan.

Goodhart said weekends are especially busy with pet walks, training sessions and client interactions, but added that his passion for animals keeps him motivated.

Word-of-mouth helping business grow

According to Goodhart, most of his clients come through recommendations and social media visibility.

He also promotes the business by handing out cards during walks and networking with residential building staff and doormen, whom he described as highly connected within neighbourhood communities.

The entrepreneur said his service focuses on a luxury customer experience rather than mass-market pricing.

Premium pet care becoming popular

Goodhart explained that pricing depends on factors such as the dog’s size, behaviour, schedule and location. He noted that many busy professionals in New York are willing to pay extra for reliable and personalised pet care.

The growing demand reflects a wider trend of premium pet services gaining popularity globally as pet owners increasingly treat animals as family members and prioritise specialised care.

Goodhart said his long-term goal is to eventually turn the side hustle into his full-time profession.
