A member of the Pakistan groundstaff lost his footing and fell while attempting to clear water from the outfield during the Australia vs Afghanistan match at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. A video of the incident quickly gained traction on social media.

Typically, super soppers are employed to remove large amounts of water from the field, but on this occasion, the groundstaff used oversized mops instead. In the process, one of them slipped and fell, prompting laughter from viewers.

Commenting on the spectacle, cricketer Abhinav Mukund humorously likened the scene to curling. “Along with curling, what we are also seeing is falling,” added Sanjay Manjrekar in a witty remark.

As the action unfolded, cameras turned to the Australian team, who were visibly surprised by the unorthodox method employed by the Lahore grounds crew. Despite their efforts, the umpires decided the field was too wet to continue the game.

The rain-related delays led to criticism online, with some fans voicing their frustrations. One user pointed out the poor drainage system in Pakistan’s stadiums, suggesting that such issues shouldn’t exist in an international tournament. Others lamented the lack of proper facilities and drainage systems, which ultimately led to the abandonment of the match.

Australia advanced to the semifinals after the match was called off due to the weather.
