A senior Pakistani journalist, Fayyaz Solangi, has been arrested for orchestrating his own kidnapping in Sindh province to gain leverage in a property dispute, according to local police. Solangi was detained alongside his uncle, Mazhar Solangi, a notorious dacoit, who allegedly helped him stage the abduction. The scheme was uncovered following a thorough investigation by Khairpur police.
The case came to light after the reported kidnapping sparked protests and sit-ins, creating public unrest. “The police’s reputation was at stake when the kidnapping of a journalist from Khairpur was reported, leading to widespread protests,” said SSP Khairpur Tauhid Memon. A comprehensive probe revealed that the abduction was fabricated as part of a scheme to pressure the police into arresting Fayyaz’s cousins, with whom he had a property dispute.
To further escalate the situation, Fayyaz sent fabricated videos showing himself being tortured by supposed kidnappers, sharing them with the media and posting them on social media to intensify the pressure on law enforcement. The investigation revealed that the entire plot was devised to manipulate the legal system and settle personal grievances.
