The Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) has launched an investigation after a video circulating online appeared to show a man kicking a small black dog at a residence on Bruce Avenue.

The footage, which went viral on social media, was reportedly first shared by a Hamilton-based animal rescue group, Fur Warriors, on February 16. The group urged the public to help bring attention to the situation and contact authorities.

Viral post sparks public concern

The video clearly shows a man forcefully kicking a dog as it enters a home. However, it remains unclear when or where the footage was recorded, and whether it was indeed filmed in Sudbury.

The social media post included a Bruce Avenue address and encouraged users to contact police, leading to a surge of public calls.

In response, GSPS confirmed it is aware of the video and is actively investigating the matter.

“We are aware of and are actively investigating an incident involving a small black dog and an individual on Bruce Avenue,” the police said in a statement.

Police urge caution

Authorities have asked the public not to call 9-1-1 unless they have first-hand information about the incident. Anyone who witnessed the alleged event is urged to contact police directly at 705-675-9171.

Police also cautioned against sharing personal information online, noting that unverified claims and doxing can interfere with investigations.

At present, no charges have been announced. Officials stated that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
