The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah ushered in 2026 with a spectacular New Year’s Eve celebration, setting a new Guinness World Records title for the largest aerial phoenix formed by drones.

Thousands of residents and visitors gathered along the waterfront to witness a 15-minute display that seamlessly blended cutting-edge drone technology with large-scale fireworks, transforming the night sky into a canvas of light, movement and symbolism.

Phoenix drone show steals the spotlight

The centrepiece of the celebrations was an unprecedented drone performance featuring 2,300 drones flying in perfect synchronisation above the emirate’s coastline. At the heart of the display was a towering phoenix — a universal symbol of renewal and rebirth — marking the start of a new year.

Adding to the visual impact, 1,000 pyro drones illuminated the phoenix’s wings with flame-like effects, creating the illusion of a fiery bird soaring across the sky. Another striking formation, titled The Welcome, showed a human figure rising from the sea with open arms, representing Ras Al Khaimah’s spirit of hospitality and openness to the world.

Spectators watched in awe as the drone sequences unfolded with precision and artistry, blending storytelling with advanced technology in a way rarely seen at New Year celebrations.

Fireworks light up six kilometres of coastline

As midnight approached, the drone show transitioned into a massive fireworks countdown. Hundreds of fireworks were launched in carefully choreographed waves along a six-kilometre stretch of coastline, from Marjan Island to Al Hamra.

The sky and shoreline lit up in vivid colours and patterns, accompanied by thunderous sound effects that echoed across the waterfront. Earlier in the evening, families had also enjoyed a separate fireworks display at Corniche Al Qawasim, adding to the festive atmosphere across the emirate.

A celebration of community and optimism

The New Year’s Eve event drew crowds to beachfront resorts and the official festival zone, where live stage performances and entertainment created a shared celebratory experience.

Phillipa Harrison, CEO of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, said the celebrations were designed to unite the community while reflecting on progress and looking ahead with hope.

“New Year’s Eve in Ras Al Khaimah is about bringing people together,” she said, adding that the record-breaking show symbolised optimism and ambition for the year ahead.
