In a viral address to a crowd in Dera Ghazi Khan last week, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif boldly promised that his government would lead Pakistan to surpass India economically. His declaration—”If we don’t leave India behind, then my name is not Shehbaz Sharif”—was met with enthusiasm as he energetically emphasized Pakistan’s potential for greatness. In the video, Sharif also swore on the life of his brother, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and passionately pledged to turn the country into a “great nation.”

The video, which quickly gained traction on social media, shows Sharif’s fervor as he passionately bangs the podium and speaks about transforming Pakistan’s economic future. However, the moment also went viral for another reason—Sharif accidentally knocked over the microphone while delivering his speech, something he has done multiple times before, adding a lighter twist to his passionate address.

Sharif also made claims about Pakistan’s economic improvements, stating that inflation had been reduced dramatically—from 40% to 2%—under his leadership. He stressed that Pakistan would achieve its progress without relying on loans, instead focusing on building a self-reliant economy.

The Prime Minister’s comments also touched on Pakistan’s desire for dialogue with India, suggesting that both nations should address all issues, including Kashmir, through peaceful talks.
