Washington: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, issued a new raft of pardons for his allies, one of whom is the father of his son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Charles Kushner, a real estate developer who pleaded guilty to several charges including tax evasion and witness tampering in 2004, is among 26 people who have been pardoned. Three people had all or part of their sentences commuted, a report by Agence France-Presse (AFP) adds.
The White House said in a statement that the US President also pardoned Paul Manafort, who was his 2016 campaign chairman, and Roger Stone, Trump’s long-time ally, the report said.
Just the previous day, the President pardoned 15 people and commuted sentences for five. Two of the people pardoned on Tuesday were linked to the probe into the alleged collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia, Four were Blackwater security guards who were convicted in the killing of 14 Iraqi civilians in 2007.
It is reported that Tuesday’s pardons have drawn outrage and Wednesday’s pardons are also likely to be criticised.
