A heartwarming video restoring people’s faith in humanity has gone viral on social media after a stranger rushed to help an amputee cyclist whose prosthetic leg suddenly detached during a training session.
Vincenzo Garofalo, a former naval engineer preparing for the Ironman endurance competition, was cycling through Saint Paul’s Bay in Malta when the incident occurred.
Prosthetic leg detached during training ride
The viral clip shows Garofalo struggling to balance his bicycle on the roadside after his right prosthetic leg unexpectedly came off mid-ride.
A pedestrian nearby immediately ran towards him, retrieved the detached limb, and helped steady the bicycle to prevent him from falling or losing control.
Though traffic on the road was limited at the time, social media users praised the stranger’s quick reaction and kindness.
Video wins millions of views online
Garofalo later shared the footage online to thank the stranger and inspire others not to give up despite physical challenges.
“I had only seen it in videos, until I experienced it firsthand. Better to laugh about it. I want to sincerely thank the gentleman for running over and helping immediately. A truly kind soul,” he wrote.
The clip quickly went viral and reportedly crossed 8.8 million views, drawing thousands of comments from people around the world.
Many users praised both Garofalo’s determination and the stranger’s selfless response.
‘Life taught me not to give up’
Responding to the overwhelming support, Garofalo shared an emotional message about resilience and perseverance.
He said life had been difficult and that he had faced countless setbacks, but chose never to give up.
“Life has been hard on me. It took a lot away from me and made me fall countless times. But it also taught me to appreciate the little things and the invisible battles people fight,” he wrote.
The touching moment has resonated widely online, with many calling it a reminder that kindness and compassion still exist in everyday life.
