A 16-year-old girl lost her life and another teenager was critically injured after a sledding accident involving a moving vehicle in Frisco, Texas, police said.
According to the Frisco Police Department, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon near Majestic Gardens Drive and Killian Court. A 16-year-old boy was driving a Jeep while pulling two teenage girls on a sled when the sled struck a curb and crashed into a tree.
Victims rushed to hospital
When officers arrived at the scene, they found both 16-year-old girls in critical condition. Police immediately administered life-saving measures before the victims were transported to a nearby hospital. One of the girls later succumbed to her injuries.
Family members and an FC Dallas soccer coach identified the deceased as Elizabeth Angle, a 16-year-old student and athlete. Tributes poured in on social media, with many expressing shock and grief over her sudden death.
Police issue safety warning
Frisco police said the accident occurred amid dangerous winter storm conditions that left roads icy and slippery. In a statement, the department urged residents to avoid outdoor activities during severe weather.
“For your safety, please keep in mind that snow and ice can create extremely slippery surfaces and lead to serious or even deadly accidents,” police said. “Please stay alert, stay indoors when possible, and avoid any unnecessary outdoor activity until conditions improve.”
Investigation ongoing
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident and have appealed to the public for information.
Anyone with details related to the accident has been asked to contact the Frisco Police Department as investigations continue.
The tragedy has renewed calls for caution during extreme winter weather, particularly involving risky activities such as vehicle-towed sledding, which authorities say can quickly turn fatal under icy conditions.
