In northeastern Thailand’s Udon Thani province, a soldier was shocked to find his four-year-old son holding what appeared to be an explosive device. The boy had found it in the garden, but it was not his fault. The family dog, a nine-year-old Labrador-Golden Retriever mix named Latte, had brought the device into the yard, mistaking it for a ball.
The device, a fist-sized homemade explosive, was meant for use in local festivals and ceremonies. The boy’s father, Sergeant Major Jittakorn Talangjit, recognized the danger and immediately placed the device in a cardboard box for safety. Police and bomb disposal officers were called to defuse it. The father expressed relief that the device hadn’t detonated while Latte was carrying it.
