A viral video shared by a Ugandan man has reignited online discussion about public safety in Dubai after he documented an unusual real-life experiment that many say reinforces the city’s reputation as one of the safest urban centres in the world.
Delivery left untouched for a week
The video was posted on Instagram by Rashid Lumunye, who explained that he deliberately left an online delivery outside his Dubai residence while travelling abroad to see whether it would still be there upon his return.
In the clip, Lumunye says he ordered an item from Amazon shortly before leaving Dubai for Uganda. The parcel was delivered to his doorstep while he was away, prompting him to turn the situation into an impromptu test of the city’s safety.
“Everyone says Dubai is safe,” he says in the video, “so I wanted to see if my delivery would still be there when I came back.”
Journey from Uganda to Dubai
Lumunye documents his return journey in detail, narrating how he flew from Entebbe to Dubai with Emirates. He describes checking in, boarding the evening flight and landing at Dubai International Airport late at night before heading home for the reveal.
“One of the safest places on earth”
The climax of the video shows Lumunye arriving at his residence and walking towards his front door. The parcel, delivered nearly a week earlier, is seen lying exactly where it had been left, untouched.
“This is one of the beauties of living in one of the safest places on earth,” he says, as the camera focuses on the intact package.
Social media reacts
The video has since crossed three lakh views on Instagram, drawing widespread reactions from users across the world. Many praised Dubai’s strong sense of public order and low crime rates.
“This is why people trust the system there so much,” one user commented. Another wrote, “Try this in many other cities and the result would be very different.” Several viewers described the clip as “impressive”, “reassuring” and a clear example of how safety norms are deeply ingrained in daily life in Dubai.
A wider conversation on urban safety
While not a scientific test, the video has sparked broader conversations online about trust, civic discipline and urban safety—issues that resonate globally, including in Indian cities where doorstep thefts remain a concern.
For many viewers, Lumunye’s simple experiment served as a striking illustration of how public behaviour and enforcement together shape everyday security.
