Police in the UK reported on Wednesday that a 26-year-old man was under arrest following the deaths of the wife and two daughters of a radio racing commentator, apparently killed with a crossbow in what is suspected to be a targeted attack.

The suspect, Kyle Clifford of Enfield in north London, had been sought in connection with the deaths of the three women in Bushey, north of London, on Tuesday night.

The victims were identified as Carol Hunt, 61, the wife of BBC radio and Sky Sports racing commentator John Hunt, along with their daughters Louise, 25, and Hannah, 28, according to statements from the broadcasters.

In an update, authorities stated that Clifford, who was located in Enfield, “was known to the victims,” and that no other suspects were being pursued. Clifford was receiving medical treatment for injuries he sustained, police added.

Earlier reports indicated that officers responded to a residence in Bushey, where the three women were pronounced dead at the scene. Chief Superintendent Jon Simpson described it as a “horrific incident” involving what appeared to be a crossbow, though other weapons might also have been involved.

Following the incident, a primary school in Enfield took precautions, keeping students indoors while police conducted their search.

In the UK, owning a crossbow does not require a license, but carrying one in public without a valid reason is illegal. Yvette Cooper, the Interior Minister, expressed shock over the deaths and noted ongoing considerations regarding potential legislative changes regarding crossbows.

Both BBC Radio Five Live and Sky Sports Racing expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths, with condolences extended to John Hunt and his family.

Neighbors recounted hearing distressing sounds and witnessing a heavy police response in the wake of the incident. One neighbor described the victims as a friendly family, expressing sadness and shock over the events.

This incident follows other recent incidents involving crossbows in the UK, prompting discussions about potential further controls on these weapons.
