Karachi: Zubair Baloch, the brother of jailed gangster and former People’s Aman Committee chief Uzair Baloch, was critically injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on him outside his residence in Karachi‘s Lyari area on Thursday evening. The attack also left two bystanders injured, while police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining multiple possible motives, including gang rivalry and personal enmity.
Motorcycle-borne assailants open fire
According to police, two unidentified attackers on a motorcycle opened fire on the 40-year-old Zubair Baloch before fleeing the scene.
The shooting occurred on Chakiwara Road in Karachi’s Lyari locality, an area that has witnessed gang-related violence in the past. Besides Zubair, two passersby were also struck by bullets during the attack.
Victims shifted to hospital
All three injured persons were rushed to Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.
Reports said Zubair Baloch sustained gunshot injuries to his chest and abdomen and was in critical condition. The condition of the two bystanders has not been officially disclosed.
Police probe multiple angles
Police have begun an investigation and are exploring several possible motives behind the attack.
Officials said they are examining whether the shooting was linked to gang rivalry, personal enmity, or other criminal factors. No arrests had been reported at the time of publication, and investigators are analysing evidence and witness accounts to identify the assailants.
