Vatican to Discuss Supernatural Phenomena in Press Conference Today

Vatican

The revised church teachings on “supernatural phenomena” will be unveiled at a press conference held by the Vatican on Friday. The Holy See Press Office’s website has a notice about the press conference, which is why some outlets reported falsely that it was about “aliens”. According to the notice, instead, the church authorities will “present the new provisions of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith for discerning between apparitions and other supernatural phenomena”.

Any time a saint, the Virgin Mary, or Christ himself appears before a human being on Earth, it is referred to as a “apparition”.

The press conference will be held by Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez, Monsignor Armando Matteo and Sister Daniela Del Gaudio.

The Vatican’s YouTube channel will host a live stream of the announcement.

Fernandez stated that the department is “in the process of finalising a new text with clear guidelines and norms for the discernment of apparitions and other phenomena” in a report that was published in Fox News last week.

Traditionally, the diocesan bishop’s office records and examines apparitions before sending them to Rome for additional study.

This kind of announcement is becoming more and more popular because it hasn’t been made since February 1978.

According to Fox News, the 1917 Miracle of Fatima is the most extensively recorded apparition in modern times. Tens of thousands of people claimed to have seen the sun move erratically across the sky and produce radiant colors for several minutes in Fatima, Portugal, following an alleged series of appearances by the Virgin Mary promising a public miracle to several peasant children.

Ten years after the “supernatural” event occurred, the Pope officially acknowledged and approved it.
