The White House has strongly rejected social media claims that US President Donald Trump fell asleep during a recent Oval Office event, after a viral video generated millions of views online.
The controversy erupted after clips circulated on social media appearing to show Trump sitting with his eyes closed during an event promoting the administration’s energy policies.
Viral video fuels online debate
One widely shared post claimed the 79-year-old president had “fallen asleep” during the event, attracting millions of views and sparking heated discussion online.
The footage prompted speculation among critics about Trump’s health and energy levels, while supporters argued that the clips were misleading and taken out of context.
The White House Rapid Response team quickly responded on social media, dismissing the allegations and insisting that the president was awake during the event.
White House defends president
Administration officials strongly criticised those sharing the claims.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle described Trump as “the sharpest, most accessible, and energetic president in American history” and rejected suggestions that the president had been sleeping during public appearances.
Officials also pointed to Trump’s demanding schedule, saying he routinely works late into the night and remains actively engaged in government affairs.
Health questions continue to draw attention
The incident comes amid ongoing public discussion surrounding Trump’s health and fitness for office.
Recent online debates have focused on videos showing the president with his eyes closed during public events, along with speculation about other visible health-related issues.
The issue also surfaced in Congress when Democratic Representative Ted Lieu questioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio about videos allegedly showing Trump dozing during meetings.
Rubio dismissed the claims, stating that Trump rarely sleeps and frequently contacts senior officials at unconventional hours.
Despite the White House’s denials, the videos continue to circulate online, reflecting the growing scrutiny that public figures face in the era of social media and viral content.
