Winter Warms Up With Rasam and Soups on Swiggy

The culinary world has a new social media darling—French Press Rasam. Popularised by Avartana, ITC’s flagship South Indian restaurant, this innovative take on rasam has become an Instagram sensation. Initially featured on Avartana’s menu, it now enjoys cult status, championed by food influencers for its creative presentation and flavor. This trend highlights how rasam, a traditional South Indian dish, continues to resonate deeply, evolving into viral content online.

Interestingly, rasam’s popularity extends beyond dining tables to Swiggy orders, particularly in North India during winter. Though purists may balk at its categorization as a soup, many enjoy it that way during colder months. Rasam’s flavor-packed simplicity makes it an ideal winter comfort dish, though it faces tough competition from other seasonal favorites like Manchow Soup.

Manchow Soup, despite its misnomer (its origins are far from China), remains a winter superstar on Swiggy. Packed with vegetables like carrots and spring onions and flavored with ginger, this thick broth is a beloved antidote to chilly weather. Another seasonal favorite is Thukpa, the hearty noodle soup with roots in Himalayan cuisine. With variations from Meghalaya to Tibet, Thukpa sees a 15% rise in orders during winter.

These seasonal favorites influence dining habits, with dinner orders shifting earlier during winters, often starting by 6 pm. Soups and broths are the go-to comforting starters, setting the stage for cozy winter evenings.
