Nuwakot: A 60-year-old woman was rescued alive on the 11th day after being trapped beneath her house, which was buried by a devastating flood and landslide in Betrawati, Nuwakot, Nepal. The extraordinary rescue has brought relief and amazement to local residents and security personnel involved in the search operation.
Woman found alive beneath buried house
The rescued woman has been identified as Chandika Shrestha, a resident of Bidur Municipality-10. She was trapped inside the house of Anand Shrestha in Betrawati after the area was severely affected by the destructive flooding of the Trishuli River.
Shrestha remained buried for 11 days before being located by a police team on Saturday. Her survival for such an extended period beneath the debris has been described as a remarkable incident by those involved in the rescue.
The rescue operation began after police received information that a person’s voice could be heard coming from inside the partially buried house.
Police respond to voice from debris
According to Nuwakot Superintendent of Police (SP) Bipin Regmi, a police team immediately reached the site after receiving the information.
The house had been partially buried by a landslide triggered by the disaster. Rescue personnel began carefully excavating the debris and eventually found Shrestha alive inside.
The discovery came as a major surprise to the rescuers, who had been working in difficult conditions in the flood-affected area.
After being brought out safely, Shrestha was taken to a health facility for immediate medical treatment. Her condition is being monitored following the prolonged period she spent trapped beneath the debris.
