What began as a routine hike turned into an unexpected journey for Jinny Oh after she rescued a lone husky from a mountain trail—only to discover weeks later that she had taken in not one dog, but seven.
A chance encounter on the trail
Oh, known on Instagram as @jinnyohh, told Newsweek that she was hiking near her home in Mexico with a friend and her two dogs when she bent down to pet what she thought was one of her own pets.
Instead, she found a husky sitting quietly alone on the trail.
“I just assumed she belonged to someone,” Oh said, explaining that many people visit the mountain area on weekends. After asking around and finding no owner, she realised the dog was a stray.
Oh decided that if the husky willingly followed her down the mountain, she would take her home. The dog did not hesitate. She later named her Chilaquiles.
A surprising vet visit
After bringing Chilaquiles home, Oh and her boyfriend took her for vaccinations and grooming. The husky quickly adjusted to her new environment.
However, during a follow-up veterinary visit about two weeks later, the couple received unexpected news: Chilaquiles was pregnant.
An X-ray later confirmed that the dog was carrying six puppies, with delivery expected soon.
Choosing compassion
Oh admitted she initially felt overwhelmed at the thought of caring for multiple puppies. Her boyfriend had previously mentioned the possibility of ending the pregnancy if needed.
But Oh said she felt deeply connected to Chilaquiles and ultimately decided to move forward with preparing for the litter.
The story has since resonated widely online, with many praising the rescue and offering support as Chilaquiles prepares to welcome her pups.
