YADGIR/KALABURAGI: Yadgir police registered an FIR against local Congress MLA Chennareddy Tunnur and his son Pampanagouda alias Sunny Gouda on Saturday under Sections 352, 108, 3(5), and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The FIR follows the mysterious death of Yadgir sub-inspector Parashuram, 34.
The complaint, filed by Parashuram’s wife Shwetha NV, came after he died on Friday night. Yadgir SP Sangeeta announced that the case has been transferred to CID for investigation.
Parashuram reportedly died from a heart attack, with his father noting blood oozing from his mouth en route to the hospital. Shwetha stated in her complaint that Parashuram, who took charge as PSI at Yadgir town police station seven months ago, was under pressure from Chennareddy and Pampanagouda. She alleged they demanded Rs 30 lakh to allow him to stay in his position. When Parashuram visited the MLA’s office to plead against his transfer, he was insulted and subjected to caste-based abuse.
Despite his pleas, Parashuram was transferred to the CEN police station. After attending a farewell party at Yadgir police station on Friday, he called Shwetha, expressing his distress over the transfer. Shwetha, pregnant and staying with her parents in Raichur, learned of her husband’s death later that night.
Protests by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and Dalit organizations ensued, demanding action against the MLA and his son. The protests subsided only after the police registered the FIR. District in-charge minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur stated that Parashuram had not complained to his superiors about the alleged harassment, and transfers are common in government departments.
