Surapura : The association of quarry workers, involved in construction and stone-breaking activities, organized a protest on Wednesday. The workers were demanding educational support for their children and other related demands. The protest march began at Gopalaswamy temple and concluded at Gandhivritt.

Devindrappa Pattara, the AITUC district unit president who led the protest, highlighted the issue of corruption within the labor department. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into these allegations.

Workers have been facing difficulties in renewing their identity cards due to stricter regulations and document requirements. This has resulted in confusion and non-renewal of identity cards.

Pattara expressed outrage over the reduction of educational subsidies for workers’ children from Rs. to 25.

The president of the taluk unit of the construction workers’ association, Devindrappa Gudalakeri, accused the Congress government of not providing any kits for educational purposes, unlike the previous BJP government which had distributed laptops, tablets, and school kits.

Prominent figures such as MLA Raja Venugopalanayak and Tehsildar K Vijayakumar were present during the protest. They submitted a memorandum to Gangadhara regarding the grievances raised by the quarry workers’ association.
