21-year-old’s dead body found in Bangalore lake
A 21-year-old woman from Karnataka was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a lake on Bengaluru’s outskirts. Police arrested her father following allegations by her boyfriend that she was murdered in an honour killing.
The victim, R Sahana from Harohalli, was reportedly riding pillion with her father, Ramamurthy, when their motorcycle lost control near Huskur Lake. While Ramamurthy swam to safety, Sahana drowned around 12:30 pm. Later, he filed a police complaint.
However, Sahana’s boyfriend, Nithin, accused Ramamurthy of intentionally pushing her into the lake, citing her family’s opposition to their interfaith relationship. He claimed Ramamurthy had assaulted Sahana the previous night and warned that he would never permit their marriage.
Ramamurthy, who was briefly arrested and granted station bail, stated he lost balance while riding and failed to rescue his daughter despite knowing how to swim. A police officer noted that Ramamurthy was restless after discovering his daughter’s relationship.
Authorities have registered a case of negligent death, but suspicions of honour killing persist. Investigations are underway to determine the truth behind Sahana’s tragic demise.
