Oo Saw Kee was given a 10-year prison term by a Malaysian court on Tuesday for sprinkling hot water on a man who has Down syndrome in an elevator.
Oo entered a guilty plea to the charge of hitting the victim with boiling water. Given that the victim was disabled, Judge Ahzal Fariz Ahmad Khairuddin denounced her actions as grave, cruel, and inhumane. In addition, a fine of 6,000 ringgit (more than ₹1 lakh) was mandated for her.

According to the police, the woman was taken into custody at 9:20 p.m. in her Bayan Lepas apartment building, as reported by The Straits Times. The woman is the subject of an assault investigation.

According to the media outlet, the 33-year-old was returning to his 16th-floor apartment when he was sprayed with hot water in the building’s elevator.

Many people criticized the woman’s actions after the horrific video of the incident went viral online.

According to a Balik Pulau police spokesperson, the victim’s younger sister called the police at approximately 9:20 a.m. regarding an incident in which she said a woman in an elevator had sprayed her brother with acid.

“The victim lives with his 23-year-old sister and other siblings in the same apartment.

“Despite being a person with a disability, the victim can speak well,” he said.

According to a Balik Pulau police spokesperson, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. The spokesperson emphasized that there had been no prior altercations or known interactions between the victim and the suspect, who are residents of the same apartment building.  The incident transpired within an elevator as the victim ascended towards their residence on the 16th floor.

“Based on CCTV footage during the incident, only the victim and the suspect were in the elevator,” he said.

For medical attention, the victim was brought to Penang Hospital.

Following a medical evaluation, it was determined that the victim had burns on both the front and back of their right side, which was consistent with having been in hot water. This disproves early reports that suggested an acid attack.
