Heatwave Alert: East, South States – Take Precautions

According to the weather office, a severe heatwave is gripping the east and south of the Indian peninsula, with daily highs above 41 degrees Celsius.

It’s likely that the heat wave will persist until Wednesday, reaching extreme heat wave conditions. Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra are the regions that experienced temperatures between 41 and 45 degrees Celsius.

It is predicted that the western Himalayan region will see rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds until tomorrow, while the plains of northwest India will likely see rain today.

From today through Tuesday, there may be thunderstorms and a lot of rain in the northeast.

Tamil Nadu is experiencing scorching heat and Erode district reported 44 degree Celsius last week. In many districts of the state, there is a heat wave and the weather department has warned people not to go out in the open between 12 pm and 3 pm.

Even the hill station Ooty is experiencing a heatwave with temperature touching 27.6 degree Celsius, which is 4.2 degree above normal.

Scorching heatwave gripping Odisha has disrupted daily life, with temperatures soaring to alarming levels on Saturday. The industrial town of Angul recorded a blistering 44.7 degree Celsius, while Bhubaneswar, the state capital, sweltered at 44.6 degree Celsius, marking the highest temperature this summer, weather officials said.

In Mumbai, there is a gradual increase in temperature and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued advisories. The heat wave conditions in isolated pocket in north coastal areas will extend to Mumbai.

Additionally, Kollam, Thrissur, and Palakkad in Kerala received heat wave alerts from the IMD. According to the IMD, there would be heat waves in many of these districts today.

The alert was sent out in response to the intense heat that has been observed over the past few days and was predicated on the possibility of temperatures rising to 41 degrees Celsius in Palakkad and 40 degrees Celsius in Kollam and Thrissur.

The authorities have advised that in such circumstances, people should exercise extreme caution. According to the statement, there’s a possibility of heatstroke and sunburn.
