Anganwadi workers and helpers in Karnataka have reported that the sarees provided to them as uniforms by the state government are of poor quality. Distributed on September 15, the sarees were meant to be worn from October 2 for the next year. However, within just 15 days of use, workers have complained that the threads are unraveling and black spots have appeared on the fabric.
The government distributed four sarees (two each) to 1,37,509 workers across 69,919 centers, with each saree costing Rs 400. Workers, however, claim the sarees are worth less than Rs 100. Tara J Ballal, president of the Anganwadi Workers and Assistants Association in Dakshina Kannada, expressed concern, stating, “The sarees are falling apart. How can they be expected to last a year?”
