Angry over petty fight, labourer makes hoax bomb call, disrupts KK Express
In a serious breach of safety protocols, a 33-year-old labourer from Uttar Pradesh was tracked down by Kalaburagi Railway Police for making a fake bomb threat to the Solapur police in the early hours of Monday.
The man, Deep Singh, a mason employed in Guntakal, called the police claiming a bomb had been planted on the KK Express and would soon detonate. Following standard operating procedures (SOP), railway authorities carried out an intensive security check when the train reached Wadi station, eventually confirming it was a hoax.
Investigations revealed that Singh, who was travelling in the general compartment, had gotten into a minor altercation with a fellow passenger. Enraged by the spat, he dialled in the bomb threat from his mobile phone and immediately switched it off to avoid detection.
The hoax triggered a major security operation, with passengers being deboarded and the bomb disposal squad conducting a full sweep of the train. The resulting delay disrupted the schedule, causing inconvenience to hundreds of travellers.
Kalaburagi police used call detail records to trace the accused and have booked him under Sections 351(4) and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Singh has been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway.
Authorities have warned that false threats are a punishable offence and will be dealt with strictly.
