As sales continue to dip, several car manufacturers have introduced upgrades to their bestselling models at the start of the year, when dealership foot traffic typically slows down. According to CS Vigneshwar, President of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), January tends to be a sluggish month for dealerships, with the first two weeks seeing a dip in customer visits as the excitement of year-end deals fades. Footfall typically picks up after festivals like Makar Sankranti and Pongal, which happen in the second half of the month.
To counteract the seasonal slowdown, companies like Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) have launched new versions of their top-selling vehicles with enhanced features. Tata Motors, for example, has rolled out the 2025 editions of its Tiago, Tiago.ev, and Tigor models, which come with fresh designs, new tech, and a range of color options. Customers can now choose between petrol, CNG, and electric variants.
Hyundai, meanwhile, has introduced feature-packed upgrades for its Venue, Verna, and Grand i10 NIOS models. These updates include smart electric sunroofs, advanced infotainment systems, and premium features such as wireless chargers and smart keys. Experts suggest these updates serve two purposes: attracting customers with the latest models and giving dealerships an opportunity to display their full range of offerings.
