New Delhi: BMW Motorrad has teased a new motorcycle ahead of its October 1, 2026 reveal, with the upcoming model expected to be a road-focused middleweight roadster based on the same platform as the BMW F 450 GS. While BMW has not yet officially confirmed the motorcycle’s name, reports indicate that it could be called the BMW F 450 R.
The teaser comes months after BMW introduced the F 450 GS in India. The upcoming roadster is expected to expand BMW Motorrad’s new 450cc motorcycle family and could become a street-focused alternative to the adventure-oriented GS.
BMW has confirmed that the new motorcycle will be unveiled on October 1 at 5:30 pm IST. More details about its specifications, equipment and pricing are expected to be announced closer to the reveal.
BMW F 450 R could share platform with F 450 GS
The biggest clue about the upcoming motorcycle comes from its expected connection with the F 450 GS. BMW introduced the F 450 GS in India in April 2026, making it one of the company’s newer entry-level motorcycles in the country.
The F 450 GS uses a newly developed two-cylinder engine producing 48 hp and 43 Nm of torque. BMW’s official specifications also list a six-speed gearbox, steel tube frame and a 43 mm upside-down front fork.
The upcoming roadster is expected to use the same 420cc twin-cylinder engine, although BMW has not confirmed whether the engine will receive different tuning for the new application. A roadster version could receive changes to the power delivery, gearing and chassis setup to suit predominantly road-based riding.
Roadster design instead of adventure styling
The teaser image suggests that BMW’s upcoming motorcycle will have a considerably more road-oriented design than the F 450 GS.
The F 450 GS is an adventure motorcycle with long-travel suspension and styling designed for both paved and off-road riding. BMW lists 180 mm of suspension travel at both the front and rear on the GS.
The new roadster is expected to feature a shorter and more compact suspension setup. The teaser also appears to show an upside-down front fork, while the motorcycle has a street-focused stance with a more compact body.
However, these details are based on the teaser and expectations around the model. BMW is yet to confirm the final suspension specifications, wheel sizes or chassis dimensions.
What engine could power the BMW F 450 R?
If the motorcycle uses the F 450 GS powertrain, it could be powered by BMW’s newly developed twin-cylinder engine with an output of 48 hp and 43 Nm.
The engine is already used in the F 450 GS sold in India. BMW says the motorcycle uses a six-speed gearbox and offers technologies including Dynamic Traction Control, ABS Pro and other rider-assistance features depending on specification.
BMW could make changes to the engine’s calibration for the roadster. A naked motorcycle typically has different requirements from an adventure tourer, particularly in terms of throttle response, gearing and road performance.
For now, however, the 48 hp and 43 Nm figures should be treated as the specifications of the F 450 GS rather than confirmed figures for the upcoming roadster.
Could it replace the G 310 R?
The new motorcycle could also fill an important space in BMW Motorrad’s Indian range.
The G 310 R previously served as BMW’s entry-level roadster in India, while the G 310 GS occupied the adventure-bike space. Both models have since been discontinued, while the G 310 RR continues as the track-focused offering from BMW’s partnership with TVS.
A production F 450 R would give BMW a new road-focused motorcycle above the former 310cc models. It would also allow the company to use the new 450cc platform across different motorcycle categories.
The F 450 GS is already locally produced in India, and BMW Motorrad has positioned the motorcycle as an accessible entry point into its GS range.
BMW F 450 R expected price and rivals
BMW has not announced the price of the upcoming motorcycle. The current F 450 GS starts at Rs 4.95 lakh ex-showroom in India following a recent price revision.
If the roadster is positioned below the GS, it could compete in the premium 400cc-500cc motorcycle segment. The Aprilia Tuono 457 Special Edition and KTM 390 Duke R are among the motorcycles mentioned as potential rivals by automotive publications.
Pricing will therefore be an important factor in determining where the new BMW motorcycle sits within the Indian market. However, BMW has not yet announced the F 450 R’s price or confirmed its India-specific variant structure.
