New Delhi: Harley-Davidson has released a fresh teaser of the upcoming Sprint 440, a new cruiser-style motorcycle expected to expand the brand’s 440cc line-up in India. The teaser offers a closer look at the bike’s traditional cruiser design, including a round headlamp, swept-back handlebars, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank and a scooped single-piece seat.

The Sprint 440 is being developed in partnership with Hero MotoCorp and is expected to share its engine platform with the Harley-Davidson X440. However, the company has yet to announce the motorcycle’s complete specifications, official launch date or price. Reports suggest that the new model could make its debut in India by the end of 2026.

Harley-Davidson Sprint 440: Cruiser design revealed

The teaser suggests that the Sprint 440 will have a more conventional cruiser appearance than the existing X440. The motorcycle features a round headlamp, conventional oval-shaped rear-view mirrors and a handlebar that sweeps backwards towards the rider.

The fuel tank has a classic teardrop shape and flows into a one-piece seat with a scooped section for the rider. This design, combined with the lower-looking seat and relaxed handlebar position, suggests that Harley-Davidson is targeting riders who prefer a laid-back cruising experience.

Other visible design elements include alloy wheels, circular indicators, dual rear shock absorbers and a horizontally positioned exhaust. The motorcycle also appears to have a different instrument console and switchgear compared with the X440.

Although the teaser provides a clearer picture of the bike’s styling, details such as the final seat height, wheel dimensions, suspension specifications and overall kerb weight have not been officially confirmed.

Expected engine and performance

The Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 is expected to use the 440cc, single-cylinder engine from the X440. The existing X440 produces around 27 bhp and 38 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox.

Harley-Davidson has confirmed that the Sprint 440 will use an oil-cooled engine, but its final power and torque figures have not been announced. The new motorcycle could receive a revised engine tune to suit its cruiser-oriented character.

The engine’s strong low- and mid-range torque delivery would be suited to relaxed riding and everyday use. However, the Sprint 440’s actual performance, acceleration and fuel efficiency will become clearer once the company releases the full specifications.

The motorcycle is also expected to share some underpinnings with the X440, although changes to the rear subframe, suspension setup and wheel sizes could help create a distinct riding position and handling character.

How will the Sprint 440 differ from the X440?

While both motorcycles are expected to share their basic engine platform, the Sprint 440 appears to be designed for a different type of rider.

The X440 has a neo-retro roadster design, while the Sprint 440 adopts a longer, lower and more traditional cruiser silhouette. Its swept-back handlebars, scooped seat and revised body proportions are intended to create a more relaxed riding posture.

The new model also appears to feature a different exhaust muffler, instrument display and right-hand switch cluster. The suspension components and rear frame may be revised to accommodate the motorcycle’s design and intended riding characteristics.

A lower seat could make the Sprint 440 more accessible to a wider range of riders, although Harley-Davidson has not yet released an official seat-height figure.

These differences indicate that the Sprint 440 will not simply be a cosmetic version of the X440. Its final positioning will depend on the specifications, equipment and pricing announced at launch.

Hero MotoCorp to manufacture the motorcycle

The Sprint 440 is expected to be manufactured in India by Hero MotoCorp under its partnership with Harley-Davidson. The collaboration has enabled Harley-Davidson to offer motorcycles in a more accessible price segment while benefiting from Hero’s manufacturing and distribution capabilities.

The Sprint 440 is also expected to play a role in expanding the partnership’s reach beyond the domestic market. Reports indicate that it could become an export model, although the company has not confirmed the final list of international markets.

Its positioning as an entry-level cruiser could help Harley-Davidson reach buyers seeking the brand’s styling and identity without moving into its larger and more expensive motorcycles.

Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 launch and expected price

Harley-Davidson has not announced the official launch date or price of the Sprint 440. Reports suggest that the motorcycle could arrive in India by the end of 2026, following its official unveiling.

Early estimates place its possible ex-showroom price in the range of Rs 2.50 lakh to Rs 2.80 lakh. This is not an official price announcement, and the final cost could differ depending on the variant and equipment offered.

Once launched, the Sprint 440 is expected to compete with motorcycles such as the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Honda CB350, depending on its final pricing and specifications.

The motorcycle’s success will depend on how Harley-Davidson balances its traditional cruiser styling with everyday usability, performance and affordability. More details about its features, specifications and availability are expected closer to the official debut.

For now, the Sprint 440 remains an upcoming model, with its design taking shape through the latest teaser while key launch details remain under wraps.
