Bengaluru: The upcoming facelift version of the Honda City has been spotted once again ahead of its official launch scheduled for May 22, revealing fresh details about its updated exterior styling, revised interior layout and feature additions. The latest spy photographs provide a clearer look at the sedan’s redesigned lighting elements and rear styling while confirming several expected upgrades.

The updated model arrives at a time when competition in the midsize sedan segment remains intense, with rivals such as the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia continuing to attract buyers through design, technology and feature-rich packages.

While the overall shape and proportions of the fifth-generation City remain familiar, Honda appears to have focused on refining the sedan rather than completely redesigning it.

Front design receives major changes

The most noticeable changes are concentrated at the front of the vehicle.

Spy images suggest the facelifted City receives redesigned LED headlamps featuring integrated daytime running lamps linked by a slim illuminated light strip running across the grille area.

Honda has also redesigned the grille with a cleaner mesh pattern, creating a wider visual appearance. The updated front bumper appears sharper with angular inserts and a more aggressive lower section.

Interestingly, the spotted test vehicle did not show visible fog lamps, indicating that Honda may have integrated additional lighting elements directly into the headlamp setup.

A centrally mounted front camera visible on the bumper further hints at the introduction of a 360-degree camera system.

The Honda badge also appears to have been repositioned slightly higher towards the bonnet edge, reflecting styling cues seen on newer global Honda models.

Rear styling and alloy wheel changes

The side profile largely retains the City’s familiar silhouette, maintaining its elegant sedan design.

However, Honda has introduced a fresh dual-tone alloy wheel design with a gloss black finish intended to provide a sportier appearance. The wheel size is expected to continue at 16 inches.

At the rear, the tail lamps largely remain unchanged in terms of shape, although reports suggest they may feature a darker smoked finish.

The bumper receives redesigned inserts replacing the current C-shaped styling pattern, while a subtle integrated boot-lid spoiler further enhances the sporty appearance.

Cabin likely to receive technology upgrades

Inside the cabin, updates appear more evolutionary than dramatic.

The most significant change is expected to be a larger freestanding touchscreen infotainment system replacing the current 8-inch display. The screen appears slimmer and more premium in appearance.

The existing black-and-beige interior theme is expected to continue, along with beige upholstery and soft-touch materials.

Spy images also indicate blue ambient lighting integrated across dashboard and door sections, giving the interior a more premium look.

Expected features include:

  • Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Upgraded connected car technology
  • Enhanced premium audio system
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Powered driver’s seat
  • 360-degree camera system

These additions are aimed at matching growing customer expectations in the premium sedan segment.

Safety package expected to remain strong

Safety is expected to continue as one of the Honda City’s major strengths.

The facelift is likely to retain Honda SENSING driver assistance technology with features including:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane keep assist
  • Collision mitigation braking
  • Road departure mitigation
  • Auto high beam assist

Other expected features include six airbags, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist and tyre pressure monitoring.

Engine options likely unchanged

Mechanically, Honda is expected to retain existing powertrain choices.

The standard petrol variant will likely continue using the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 121 bhp and 145 Nm torque, paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or CVT automatic transmission.

The Honda City e:HEV hybrid version is also expected to remain in the lineup, producing a combined 126 hp with fuel efficiency figures around 27 kmpl.

Launch expected later this week

The updated City is expected to carry a small premium over the outgoing model, which currently starts from approximately ₹12.10 lakh and extends up to ₹16.17 lakh for petrol variants, while the hybrid version is priced at around ₹19.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Honda is expected to officially unveil the updated sedan on May 22 alongside the new Honda ZR-V for the Indian market.
